The Story

2000 years ago one man changed the course of history forever. That man is Jesus Christ. You, as a catechist are called to share the "greatest story ever told". How many times have you told that story? Do you know how to tell that story? Our purpose here is to help you master that story, to convey the power this story has to change lives, to allow the Holy Spirit to plant those seeds through your teaching. There is something dramatically different between teaching math, teaching history, teaching any subject, and teaching the faith.

Below are the main points of Augustine's First Catechetical teaching. It is best to memorize each point and learn how to tell them in a dynamic way which will capture your audience and show them how and why God matters in their life.

1. The story begins with the life of the Trinity and the Father's plan of the family in Adam and Eve.
2. Man is created as the "crown of creation" in the image and likeness of God.
3. Man is free to choose God, or to choose not God. They are given free will because God love us.
4. Satan tempted Adam and Eve and they choose to sin against God.
5. God did not leave man without hope. There is a promise.
6. The covenants in the Old Testament
7. Exile
8. The Fiat (Mary's yes)
9. The Incarnation
10. Christ's saving work - The Paschal Mystery
11. God's family is established
12. The coming of the Holy Spirit
13. The Church as the Pillar of Truth
14. History of the Church age
15. Anticipating Heaven
16. The Second Coming
17. Participation in Trinitarian Life.
