apologetics - perpetual virginity of Mary

[ Return to Scripture Reference Index ]

Exodus 13:2,12
"first-born" is a common Jewish expression, even if there are no other children born.

Ezek. 44:2
A prophecy of Mary's perpetual virginity

Mark 6:3
Jesus is always referred to as the son of Mary, not "a" son of Mary.

Luke 1:31
If Mary did not intend to remain a virgin, why would she "How can this be" when the angel says that she will conceive. The angel does not indicate when.

Luke 2:41-51
No mention of other siblings

John 19:26-27
Jesus commits his mother to John, if he had other siblings this would have been a grave insult in Jewish tradition.

John 19:25, Matt 27:61
Mary the wife of Clopas is the sister of the Virgin Mary.

Mark 6:3
"brother" and "cousin" are indistinguishable in the Greek.

The word "until" does not necessarily signify what will happen after such as "Joseph did not know Mary until Jesus was born." It is also said in the Scriptures that Jesus will be with us "until" the end of this age. This does not signify that Jesus will not be with us after the end of the age. There are several other examples of this use of "until" in the scriptures.
