The attack on Mary as the Mother of God is actually one of the most unfounded attacks by Protestants made against Catholics, because to deny Mary as the Mother of God isn't simply an attack on the Catholic Church, it is an attack on the divinity of Christ. This attack isn't unique, Nestorius began to attack Mary as Theotokos long ago and it rocked the early Christian Church. He effectively destroyed Christ's divinity and our salvation (See: The Christological Contraversy). You cannot separate Christ's humanity from his divinity. Mary is the Mother of the Lord, though she is not the origin of the Lord.
