introduction

Our website aims to be a growing professional catechetics website that serves catechetists by offering resources free for their use, as well as to offer an online community to spread the Good News and foster solid, orthodox catechetical values throughout the nation and abroad.

mission statement

Catechetics Online is a professional and growing Roman Catholic website with several different purposes. Our mission, first and foremost is to be at the service of the Catholic Church to aid in the fulfillment of the mission of the Church to go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observeall that I have commanded you" (Matthew 28:19-20a). In this capacity then it is our goal to:
  • Provide materials for students of catechesis and catechists to carry out their work for the Church.
  • Provide a means for all laity to be busy and productive when they spend time on the internet instead of remaining "idle" as John Paul II warns against in Christifedilis Laici.
  • To provide every means possible to reach those who are not Catholic and provide for them, as well as for Catholics, the full and complete deposit of faith. This is done through the following means:
    • Providing community forums whose members and moderators seek to "never attack, never defend, and always clarify" the Catholic faith to those seek answers.
    • Providing a blogging platform for all members, Catholic and Non-Catholic to journal about their thoughts as well as their considerations of the Catholic faith.
    • Providing essential and much needed Catholic materials to inquirers, totally free of charge, both online, and by shipping them.  We regularly mail Catholic Bibles, catechisms, books, CD's, tapes, rosaries, medals, and other materials for non-Catholics. [ General Guidelines: Protestants and non-Christians may request materials by establishing themselves a forum member with at least 25 posts and showing a serious interest in the study of the Catholic faith. Reception of free material does not indicate any obligation to convert or become a Roman Catholic. ]
  • To provide Bibles, catechisms, documents, books, and other resources in a friendly to use format to aid catechists in their goal. We intend with time to be a gateway to all of the primary sources that are available for use on the Catholic Church.

history

The earliest form of this website was as a personal website, a "blog" of the webmaster when he was still quite young. It quickly turned into a Protestant website focused on internet apologetics from a Baptist perspective and was named "Flyfree Ministries". In 2003 with the conversion of the webmaster to the Catholic faith, its focus shifted to Catholic evangelization, and for some time kept the same name. The members of the community at Flyfree Ministries, lead by the volunteer staff prayed and searched out for the charism that the website would pick up and focus on. Looking for some unique work that they could do admist the vast number of Catholic apologetic websites the staff and volunteers decided to focus on the field of catechetics which has been sorely neglected on the internet, and yet which is very vital to the life of the Catholic faith. A name change again took place and it became "Flyfree Catholic Forums" with the intention of having a two part website and forum for the discussion of catechetics. The name though still did not stick well to the professional goals of the staff. Eventually the name "Catechetics Online" was chosen in the early summer months of 2006, and has been so ever since. Today it exists to serve catechists in their job to teach the whole deposit of faith to their students. Provided are some links to previous forms of the website:
